I used to be such a good speller, too! :-)

Hello Earl/Board of Directors:

I am concerned about a letter which came to our attention last week. Although it is directed at Mr. and Mrs. Bergstedt, the implication is that Marianne Earlywine and I have done something wrong. We have not.

In fact, this is not the first time we have been harassed at this complex. Even in the best light, the behavior of this complex would be called inconsiderate.

In April of last year a hit and run driver totalled my car with my son and me in it. Thank goodness it was only my pain which lasted for months. My son, Stuart, was over it in a few weeks.

We had the car towed to our space and a notice was placed on the car within a day or so. I called a board member and was given more time to dispose of the car as I was injured. At no time before the notice was placed did someone call me on the phone or greet me at my door to communicate a problem. Am I old-fashioned to expect that kind of courtesy? It was obvious that the car was in very bad shape. Did no one even think about the consequences to the occupants of the car? My son and I were lucky to not to have ended up in the hospital. The hit and run driver was never found though there were witnesses to the accident on Alga.

Not long after we got another vehicle, it was tagged as not belonging in the space. Again, no one called us or spoke to us at our door. How could they even know that the car was not ours [which it was and is] if they never spoke to us? The replacement vehicle is a Cadillac, just so there is no confusion. Your lack of consideration is at the very least, wasting our time. Some would call it very rude. I believe it constitutes harassment.

I try to envision how these things happen. Does someone in the neighborhood report to you on these supposed violations? I would like them to give me a call first. They are also wasting your time and resources when they are inaccurate or when they could have simply engaged me as a grown person might do. Further, they put you at risk for legal action. I want to be absolutely clear here just in case anyone in this post-911 world could possibly read anything dangerous into this email. I will never resort to anything beyond the bounds of law when dealing with you. I do, however, reserve the right to bring legal action against you.

The week before last someone left their garbage bags out on Tuesday. I suspect who it is, but I cannot really say for sure. For reasons perhaps based on physical proximity, someone assumed that the bags belonged to us. Hence the letter to the Bergstedts. If anyone took the time to really know me a little bit, they would know that I am typically putting out our trash on Thursday morning and perhaps less than once a year do I even get the trash out Wednesday night. Ironically, as I type this email on Friday morning, I realize that I even forgot to get the trash out yesterday morning as my family is on Catalina Island and not having them here disrupted my normal rhythm. For me to put garbage out on Tuesday night I would assume that I would have to be in some sort of hallucinatory fever, perhaps from malaria or another fever producing malady.

Marianne Earlywine did very considerately rebag some of the garbage so that it wouldn't be strewn all over the neighborhood over the next day and a half. Next time I'll make sure she ignores it if that's what you require. She did what she thought was considerate, which is more than I can say for whoever is behind the harassment. Surely we weren't required to bring the garbage into our own home?

I want to remind you that again, no one had the courage to speak to me directly or even on the phone. Please, please, please don't harass me again. I don't have time for your nonsense. I have time for relationship, but not harassment.

For your information, I am posting a copy of this email minus the phone number on the internet at:

Have a magnificent day!
